Native to the tropical forests of South America, particularly Peru and Ecuador, the Morpho didius is famous for its vast metallic blue wings, one of the largest among the Morpho . Its iridescent glow comes from the microscopic structure of the scales, which diffracts light and gives it an almost luminous appearance.
