Acherontia atropos
Decorative frame (156 x 205 x 43 mm)
Commonly known as the "death's-head hawkmoth," Acherontia atropos is a spectacular moth native to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Recognizable by its brownish-black color with yellow patterns and the famous skull-shaped marking on its thorax, it belongs to the Sphingidae family.
This butterfly exhibits fascinating behavior: the adult can enter bee hives to feed on honey. Thanks to pheromones that mimic the bees' scent, it avoids attacks from its hosts and perfectly illustrates the ingenuity of nocturnal survival strategies. Its caterpillar feeds mainly on plants of the Solanaceae family, while the adult can produce a characteristic sound while sucking nectar or defending itself.
Mounted in an elegant frame, this specimen becomes a unique and captivating piece for collectors and lovers of natural curiosities. The frame can be hung on a wall, or simply placed, according to your wishes.
